Installation of the Duke of Newcastle at the Mechanics Hall, Nottingham, as Provincial... 1860. Creator: W Thomas

Installation of the Duke of Newcastle at the Mechanics Hall, Nottingham, as Provincial Grand Master of the Freemasons of Nottinghamshire, 1860.
The installation was attended by the Earl of Zetland, Grand Master of England; Sir Joseph Paxton, Grand Chaplain of the Order; Captain Boyer, Grand Master of Oxfordshire; and a great number of nobility and gentry were present, including representatives from the grand lodge, and numerous other distinguished members of the craft. The brethren assembled at eleven o'clock, and at twelve the Provincial Grand Lodge of Nottinghamshire was opened for the transaction of business, the reception of the most worshipful the Grand Master, and installation. On the lodge being closed and reopened in a lower degree, a levee was held for the presentation of mason visitors. At three o clock in the afternoon a banquet took place in the Corn Exchange, presided over by the Duke of Newcastle, supported by the Earl of Zetland, and a number of distinguished visitors from the most distant parts of the country'.
