EDITORS COMMENTS
This 19th-century print by Alexandre Dufay depicts Napoleon I's grand wedding banquet held in the Tuileries Palace on April 2, 1810. The newly crowned Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, dressed in his imperial regalia, sits at the head of the table, surrounded by an elaborate setting of golden columns, rich fabrics, and ornate silverware. His bride, Empress Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, dressed in a stunning white gown and adorned with the diamond diadem, sits to his right. The happy couple is flanked by their families and high-ranking officials, including the Habsburg-Lothringen heiress Maria Ludovica Leopoldina Franziska Therese Josepha Lucia, who would later become the Duchess of Parma. The grandeur of the scene reflects the opulence and power of the French Empire during this period. This historic artwork, a masterpiece by Alexandre Benoit Jean Dufay, is now part of the collection at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, offering a glimpse into the past and the splendor of Napoleon's reign.
