The Queen's Visit to Leeds - Ormolu Writing Table Suite for Her Majesty, 1858. Creator: Unknown
The Queen's Visit to Leeds - Ormolu Writing Table Suite for Her Majesty, 1858. On the occasion of the Queen's late visit to Leeds a writing-table, tastefully fitted up with all the articles requisite for writing, formed a striking object in the reception-room appropriated to the use of her Majesty. The order for this writing-table suite was intrusted by the Mayor to Messrs. Howell, James, and Co. ormolu makers to the Queen. Each article is composed of ormolu, classically engraved, set with transparent blue enamel bosses, each being inlaid either with a gold star or horseshoe, the blue forming a tasteful contrast with the gold. The entire suite is remarkable for its chaste simplicity'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858
