The RMS Titanic. Creator: Unknown
The RMS Titanic. Operated by the White Star Line, Titanic was the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of her time, and thought to be unsinkable. During her maiden voyage, bound for New York, she struck an iceberg in thick fog off Newfoundland on 14 April 1912. In the collision five of her watertight compartments were compromised and she sank. Out of the 2228 people on board, only 705 survived. A major cause of the loss of life was the insufficient number of lifeboats she carried. Postcard

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the majestic RMS Titanic, a true marvel of its time. Operated by the renowned White Star Line, this ocean liner was an epitome of luxury and grandeur. The photograph captures the essence of this magnificent vessel, with its towering funnels emitting billows of smoke as it glides through the vast expanse of the sea. However, behind this awe-inspiring image lies a tragic tale that forever etched itself into history. During her maiden voyage to New York in 1912, disaster struck when Titanic collided with an iceberg amidst thick fog off Newfoundland. The impact compromised five watertight compartments, leading to her eventual sinking. The loss suffered on that fateful night remains heart-wrenching; out of the 2228 people aboard, only 705 survived. One major contributing factor to such devastating loss was the insufficient number of lifeboats carried by Titanic. This poignant print serves as a reminder of both human ingenuity and vulnerability. It encapsulates not only the opulence and ambition associated with transatlantic travel but also highlights how even seemingly invincible creations can succumb to nature's forces. Preserved for posterity by an unknown creator, this postcard offers us a glimpse into a pivotal moment in maritime history - one that continues to captivate our collective imagination over a century later.
