EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring sarcophagus and burial chamber of Rameses VI, located in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt. Created by Newton & Co in approximately 1890, this image transports us back to a time when Rameses VI ruled as the fifth monarch of the Twentieth dynasty of Egypt. Rameses VI's tomb is situated near that of Tutankhamun, and unfortunately suffered from looting soon after his burial. However, it was this very act that inadvertently protected Tutankhamun's tomb from a similar fate. Debris from Rameses' tomb covered the entrance to Tutankhamun's resting place, preserving its treasures for centuries until their discovery in 1922. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are drawn into the intricate details adorning the walls - hieroglyphics tell stories of ancient Egyptian life and beliefs. The mural decorations showcase royal symbols and offer insight into their rich culture. This image not only serves as a testament to Rameses VI's reign but also highlights the significance of archaeological sites like these in unraveling our past. It reminds us how fragile history can be while emphasizing its enduring importance. Thanks to Heritage Images for preserving this remarkable piece of history through their collection.
