An estimated 300 people attended the December 1980 charity football match between a team of Laing players and English actor Dennis Watermans All Stars. The match was held to raise money for the Jerry Doherty Heart Fund. The game finished 2-2 and £ 452 in total was raised. Stars on Dennis Watermans team included Jan Webster, ex-England rugby scrum half; Danny Rioch, ex-Aston Villa; Jonathan Kyd, from childrens TV programme Pipkins; John Inchmore, Worcester County cricketer; and Bob McNab, ex-Arsenal full back. Playing on the Laing side were Dave Hall, Tim Smith, Kevin Blande, Geoff Seager, Richard Sawyer, Chris Martin, Dave Offord, Graham Hollis, Will Kellett, Mike Reed, Bob Louden, Dave Butcher and Phil Brown. It shows English actor Dennis Waterman shaking hands with Geoff Seager and handing him a cheque after a charity football match organized by Doug Bowden. In December 1980, approximately 300 people gathered to watch the match between a team of Laing players and Dennis Waterman's All Stars. The aim was to raise funds for the Jerry Doherty Heart Fund, and they successfully collected £452 in total. The game ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
