Hereford Library, Museum And Art Gallery, Broad Street, Hereford. View of the front elevation of the library, a three storey building with attic and basement, built c1874 by F. R. Kempson, seen from the east, with Broad Street, cars and pedestrians in the foreground.
The library was built c1874, and has three storeys with attic and basement, and a seven-window range. The windows on the first and second floor create an interrupted arcade pattern of two-three-two, and the ground floor arcade of five bays is continuous, with a wrought-iron gate in the central entrance bay. The ground and first floor have pointed arches, and the second floor trefoil-heads. Above the second floor is a parapet pierced with quatrefoil designs and small gargoyles carwling along the top. Throughour the facade are enriched friezes and capitals. The image also shows a partial view of the buildings either side, including a shop with the sign Andreas Ltd, and Broad street in the foreground, which has parked cars and pedestrians
