EDITORS COMMENTS
Greta Garbo, the enigmatic Swedish-born actress, poses for a photograph during the promotion of her film "Wild Orchids" in 1929. Discovered by Swedish director Mauritz Stiller while studying at the Royal Theatre Dramatic School in Stockholm, Garbo made her Hollywood debut in "The Temptress" in 1926. Her magnetic screen presence and captivating performances earned her a place among the greatest stars of the silent era. Some of her most notable films include "Queen Christie" (1930), "Anna Karenina" (1935), and "Ninotchka" (1939). However, after receiving poor reviews for her performance in "Two-Faced Woman" in 1941, Garbo retired from films and spent the rest of her life living as a recluse in New York.
