Lady Loughborough

Margaret Sheila Mackellar Chisholm, daughter of Harry Chisholm of Sydney, NSW, Australia married in 1915 Francis Edward Scudamore St Clair-Erskine, Lord Loughborough, eldest son of the fifth Earl of Rosslyn. She married secondly in 1928, Sir John Millbanke, eleventh baronet (d. 1947) and thirdly, Prince Dimitri Romanoff of Russia in 1954. She died in 1969. Pictured in The Tatler at the time she assisted a war matinee at the Palace Theatre in aid of the funds of the Housing Association for Officers Families. Date: 1917

EDITORS COMMENTS
"This portrait captures Lady Sheila Chisholm, later known as Lady Loughborough, during her involvement in a war matinee at the Palace Theatre in aid of the Housing Association for Officers Families in 1917. At the time of this photograph, Lady Sheila was married to Francis Edward Scudamore St Clair-Erskine, Lord Loughborough. Their marriage, however, was fraught with challenges as Loughborough's drinking and gambling habits led to their eventual divorce in 1926. Prior to her divorce, Lady Sheila was linked romantically with Albert, Duke of York, who would later become King George VI. This scandal added to the intrigue surrounding her life. Following her divorce, she married Sir John Millbanke, eleventh baronet, in 1928. In a surprising turn of events, Lady Sheila married Prince Dimitri Romanoff of Russia in 1954. Lady Sheila's life was filled with drama and intrigue, making her a fascinating figure in the history of the British aristocracy. Born as Margaret Sheila Mackellar Chisholm, she was the daughter of Harry Chisholm of Sydney, NSW, Australia. Her beauty and charm are evident in this portrait, which serves as a reminder of a bygone era." This image is a historical record and is not intended for commercial use.
