Cromer, who was born in 1841, had an illustrious career in the British civil service, serving as Consul-General in Egypt and High Commissioner and Governor-General of Sudan. The Mens League for Opposing Woman Suffrage was a British organization that sought to prevent women from gaining the right to vote.
