EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the historic Cock Tavern, located in Edmonton, London, at the corner of Fore Street and Edmonton Green. Established in the early 20th century, the pub, affectionately known as a "boozer" or "local," has been a beloved institution in the community for nearly a century. The image showcases the pub's classic red brick facade, adorned with intricate woodwork and the distinctive "Cock and Hoop" sign. The Cock Tavern was once under the management of Hoare and Company Limited, as evidenced by the trading record details on the reverse side of the print, which include records from 1934 and 1961. Over the years, the pub has served as a gathering place for locals, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friends could meet for a pint and a chat. Sadly, the Cock Tavern, like many traditional pubs, has faced the challenges of modernization and changing demographics. As of July 2018, the pub had been transformed into Kosk Restaurant, marking the end of an era for this historic establishment. Nonetheless, the memories and stories of the Cock Tavern live on, making it an essential piece of Edmonton's rich history.
