Ministers Rail at Shepherd's Bush - With a Diversion Furnished by Airing and Willows
EDITORS COMMENTS
Last Friday, a notable gathering graced the presence of the Louis Brennan monorail at Shepherd's Bush. Among the esteemed guests were four Cabinet Ministers: H.H. Asquith, David Lloyd George, Winston Churchill, and John Birrell. In this photograph, they are seen making an exploratory journey on the innovative monorail. Mr. Asquith, the Prime Minister, appears focused on the experience, while Mr. Lloyd George, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, is almost hidden in the background. Mr. Churchill, the Home Secretary, watches intently as Mr. Willows, the monorail's operator, guides the vehicle. The demonstration at the White City was further enlivened by an unexpected diversion. As the distinguished visitors marveled at the monorail, Mr. E.T. Willows, an aviation pioneer, passed overhead in his airship, en route to France. The ladies in the crowd, including Lady Gwendoline Churchill, Mrs. Winston Churchill, and Miss Violet Asquith, add an air of elegance and charm to the scene. The date of this historic moment in British transportation history is 1910. This image is a captivating reminder of a time when political leaders embraced new technologies and the allure of innovation. It is a testament to the spirit of progress that characterized the early 20th century.
