EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print from the 1920s provides a detailed explanation of where to write and sign on an American Travellers Cheque. In order to properly fill out this form of currency, travelers were instructed to write their name and address on the designated lines provided. This ensured that the cheque could be easily traced back to its rightful owner in case it was lost or stolen during their travels.
Additionally, travelers were required to sign their name on the front of the cheque in order for it to be considered valid for use. By signing this document, individuals were essentially authorizing the transfer of funds from their account to whomever they chose to make the cheque payable.
American Travellers Cheques were issued by various bankers associations, such as the American Bankers Association (ABA), and served as a convenient way for people to carry money while traveling within or outside of the United States. These cheques provided a secure alternative to carrying large sums of cash and could easily be exchanged for local currency at banks or other financial institutions.
As we look back on this piece of history, we are reminded of how far banking and travel have come since the 1920s. The evolution of technology has made it easier than ever for people to access their funds while abroad, but there is still something nostalgic about these old-fashioned travellers cheques that harken back to a simpler time in our history.
