Framed Photos from Royal Cornwall Museum

Causilgey Farm House, Tregavethan, Kea, Cornwall. Early 1900s

A view of the exterior of Causilgey, in the Manor of Tregavethan, known later as Causilgey Manor. Confusingly, the house has also been referred to as Tregavethan Manor House in 1911 Census data. Described in 1870 as having been newly built, it was designed by G. Devey. The house was built using killas rubble with granite quoins, sills, jambstones, mullions, lintels and arch stones, possibly incorporating some re-used dressed stone from the original Tregavethan Manor. Tregavethan was used as a Womens Land Army training centre during the First World War. Photographer: Arthur William Jordan

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the historic Causilgey Farm House, located in Tregavethan, Kea, Cornwall during the early 1900s. Also known as Causilgey Manor and Tregavethan Manor House in the 1911 Census data, this architectural gem was designed by G. Devey and described as newly built in 1870. The house's construction is a testament to its timeless beauty and durability. Made from killas rubble with exquisite granite quoins, sills, jambstones, mullions, lintels, and arch stones; it may have incorporated some re-used dressed stone from the original Tregavethan Manor. Interestingly enough, during World War I, this remarkable estate served as a training center for the Women's Land Army. Its grounds witnessed women coming together to contribute their efforts towards supporting their country during those challenging times. Photographed by Arthur William Jordan with great attention to detail and composition; this image captures not only the grandeur of Causilgey Farm House but also offers us a glimpse into its rich history. As we admire this snapshot frozen in time at Royal Cornwall Museum's collection; we are reminded of how architecture can transcend generations while holding stories within its walls. This photograph serves as a tribute to both an exceptional building and those who shaped its legacy throughout different eras - truly an invaluable piece of Cornish heritage.
