The year is 1935, and we find ourselves in Exeter on a warm summer's day, where this magnificent steam engine stands proudly at rest. Chirk Castle was no ordinary locomotive; it was built with meticulous craftsmanship in April 1934 and served faithfully for nearly three decades before its retirement in November 1963.
