In the year 1521, a pivotal moment in history unfolded. Martin Luther, the German religious reformer, found himself defending his beliefs before Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet in Worms. This line engraving from the 19th century captures the intensity of that moment as Luther stood firm in his convictions. In Santiago de Compostela Cathedral located in Galicia, Spain, pilgrims flocked to pay homage to Saint James (Santiago) along one of Christianity's most famous pilgrimage routes - Camino de Santiago.
