In the year 1521, a pivotal moment in history unfolded. Martin Luther, the German religious reformer, found himself defending his beliefs before Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet in Worms. This line engraving from the 19th century captures the intensity of that moment as Luther stood firm in his convictions. Meanwhile, across the ocean in Mexico, Aztec warriors faced off against Spanish conquistadors. The clash between these two worlds would forever alter the course of history. The reconstruction of the Templo Mayor complex reminds us of the grandeur and power that once existed within this ancient civilization. At sea, Ferdinand Magellan embarked on an epic journey that spanned from 1519 to 1522. His map of the Pacific Ocean showcased his route and highlighted his incredible feat of circumnavigating the globe. This wood engraving from the 19th century brings to life Magellan's daring adventure. Back on land, Spaniards held mass ceremonies in Mexico following their conquests. These events marked a significant shift in religious practices and cultural assimilation during this time period. Luther sought refuge at Wartburg Castle after being declared an outlaw by Charles V for his radical ideas. It was here that he continued to spread his teachings and translate biblical texts into German for wider accessibility. The Rood screen at Collegiale de l'Assomption in Villemaur-sur-Vanne showcases intricate craftsmanship and serves as a reminder of Europe's rich artistic heritage during this era. In Santiago de Compostela Cathedral located in Galicia, Spain, pilgrims flocked to pay homage to Saint James (Santiago) along one of Christianity's most famous pilgrimage routes - Camino de Santiago.
