"Los Caprichos: Exploring the Dark and Whimsical World of Francisco Goya" Step into the captivating world of Francisco Goya's "Los Caprichos, " a series of prints that delve into the complexities of human nature. In Plate 80, titled "It is time (Ya es hora. ), " created in 1799, Goya confronts society's need for change and progression. The image serves as a powerful reminder that transformation is necessary. Plate 60, known as "Trials (Ensayos. ), " also from 1799, showcases Goya's ability to capture the essence of struggle and adversity. Through his masterful use of etching and aquatint techniques, he portrays individuals facing their own personal trials with resilience and determination. In Plate 25, aptly named "If he broke the pot (Si quebroel Cantaro. ), " we witness a moment frozen in time. Goya captures the consequences of one's actions with striking precision, reminding us that every decision has its repercussions. Goya's genius extends beyond Los Caprichos; his work encompasses various themes and styles. In "Wrong. Until Death. " from 1799, measuring just 21 x 15 cm, he combines etching and burnished aquatint to convey an eerie sense of romanticism. This piece leaves viewers pondering their own mortality. "It is time, " another print from Los Caprichos dating back to 1797-1799, measures only slightly larger at 21 x14'5 cm but carries immense weight through its intricate details achieved using etching, burnished aquatint, drypoint, and chisel techniques. It serves as a poignant reflection on the passage of time itself. Amongst these works lies "Pretty Teacher, " an aquatint print created between 1793-1799 which reveals societal norms surrounding education during this era while subtly critiquing the role of women in teaching.
