From her opulent lifestyle at the Hameau de la Reine to her tragic end on the scaffold, her life was marked by both extravagance and adversity. In the famous portrait "Marie-Antoinette with a Rose, " we see a glimpse of her beauty and grace. The chromolithograph captures her delicate features and regal demeanor, reminding us of the allure that captivated an entire nation. However, not all depictions were so flattering. In one print from the French Revolution era, she is portrayed as a target for public scorn. A cartoon mocks Queen Marie Antoinette as she faces judgment before the Revolutionary Tribunal Court – an ominous foreshadowing of what awaited her. Amidst political turmoil and growing unrest, Marie Antoinette found herself entangled in scandalous affairs such as "The Queens Necklace Affair. " This infamous incident involved Madame de la Motte's failed attempt to steal a necklace that the queen had refused. The consequences were severe – flagellation, branding with iron marks, and imprisonment in Salpetriere.
