"Nakasendo: A Historic Journey through Japan's Scenic Countryside" Embark on a captivating journey along the Nakasendo, an ancient road that once connected Tokyo to Kyoto. This historic route played a significant role in Japan's history, as it witnessed the Plan of the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. The battle, depicted in a 1903 illustration by an unknown artist, marked a turning point for the country. The Tokaido and Nakasendo routes were used to illustrate the Sekigahara Campaign in another artwork from 1903. These illustrations offer glimpses into the past and allow us to visualize the events that unfolded centuries ago. One of the highlights along this picturesque route is Magome-juku post town nestled in Kiso Valley, Gifu prefecture. This charming town takes visitors back to feudal times with its traditional buildings and cobblestone streets. No wonder it has become one of Japan's must-visit destinations. Capture breathtaking views like no other at Nojiri's Ina River Bridge (Yonjuichi: Noriji Inagawabas) captured by Ikeda Eisen around 1835/36. The bridge stands as a testament to both architectural brilliance and natural beauty. Another masterpiece by Ikeda Eisen showcases Itahana (Jugo: Itahana), one of sixty-nine stations along Kisokaido during his time. These prints provide valuable insights into life during those days and transport us back to an era long gone. As you traverse Shiojiri Pass (Sanjuichi: Shiojiri Toge Suwa no kosui), take a moment to admire Lake Suwa from this vantage point also depicted by Ikeda Eisen around 1835/36. The stunning view serves as evidence that nature remains unchanged throughout time. Experience rain on Hiratsuka Plain near Kutsukake Station (Niju.
