"Exploring the Rich History of Neapolis: From Spain to Libya and Beyond" Neapolis, a name that echoes through time, holds tales of ancient civilizations in its grasp. From the shores of Spain's Catalonia region in Girona province to the magnificent Empuries, this city has witnessed the rise and fall of empires. In Greece, Neapolis flourished as a Greek colony known for its strategic location and vibrant trade routes. Leptis Magna, a Roman city in Libya, also bore witness to Neapolis' influence with its stunning view of Macellum from the 1st century BC. Coins tell stories too - a drachm depicting the fearsome Gorgon Medusa takes us back to 411-356 BCE. The nymph Parthenope graces another stater coin from 325-241 BCE while an enchanting siren captures our imagination on yet another stater coin dating back to 280-241 BCE. And who could forget Alexander the Great portrayed as Herakles on a captivating coin from 306-297 BCE? Moving forward in time, we find ourselves exploring Naples through various lenses. A map by Georg Braun showcases Naples' splendor during his era (1541-1622). Sicily beckons us with its treasures like Syracuse's Grotta Del Museion above the Greek Theatre and Ear of Dionysius within Neapolis Archaeological Park. Amidst these wonders stands a statue of Athena - her presence reminding us of Rome's admiration for Greek culture as seen in this Roman copy. Neapolis is more than just a name; it represents centuries filled with conquests, artistry, mythology, and architectural marvels that continue to captivate our hearts today.
