Sepulchres, the eternal resting places of the departed, hold within them stories of lives lived and legacies left behind. From the North London Cemetery in Highgate to the Lebanon Catacombs, these sacred spaces stand as testaments to our fascination with mortality. In St Sepulchre/Holborn Via, a path leads us through history's corridors, where they were built with love and reverence. Alone In The World, an 1870 print captures the solitude that envelopes these hallowed grounds. Across continents and centuries, they have held great significance. Galileo Galilei's tomb in Florence's Basilica of Santa Croce speaks volumes about his contributions to science during the 18th century. Anthropomorphic stone stelae from Yamna Culture transport us back to a time long forgotten - their enigmatic presence reminding us of ancient rituals and beliefs. Meanwhile, Jesus raising Lazarus from his tomb in a powerful engraving evokes hope amidst despair. The tombstone of a Muslim girl crafted from marble stands as a testament to faith and remembrance dating back to 1040. And in The Little Resurrection of Lazarus etching from 1642, we witness life triumphing over death once more. Traveling further into antiquity reveals wonders like the False Door adorned with reliefs and table offerings belonging to Princess Uhemnefret from Egypt's Giza necropolis during the 4th dynasty (2500 BC). These artifacts provide glimpses into ancient Egyptian culture and their beliefs surrounding death. Artistic expressions also find their place among sepulchral narratives. The Assumption of the Virgin painting on wood depicts divine ascension while Scenes of cattle breeding, slaughter, bearers of offerings and sacrifice adorn Iti and Neferu's Tomb walls - capturing moments both mundane yet profound.
