Takinaka Tsuruzo, also known as Ichikawa Monnosuke II, was a prominent actor in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He mesmerized audiences with his versatile performances and captivating portrayals of various characters. In one striking image from around 1770, we see Monnosuke II transformed into a woman named Miyukinosuke. With delicate features and graceful movements, he embodies femininity effortlessly. The artist Ippitsusai Buncho skillfully captures the essence of this character. Another remarkable depiction showcases Monnosuke II alongside Segawa Kikunojo III in a pentaptych created by Torii Kiyonaga in 1788. Their intense expressions convey the depth of emotion they bring to their roles as they captivate viewers with their powerful performances.
