War leaves behind a trail of destruction, as evident in this poignant image. A cat sits solemnly in front of a once majestic building that now bears the scars of recent shelling. The shattered glass pane reflects the weary face of a Free Syrian Army fighter, his weapon serving as a constant reminder of the turmoil he endures. Thick smoke billows into the sky, an ominous backdrop to fierce clashes between Iraqi Army and Islamic State fighters. Palestinian buildings stand tall but scarred in Sur Baher village near Arab east Jerusalem.
