Step back in time to the XII century, a period filled with historical events and architectural wonders. One notable figure of this era was St Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury. A coloured engraving captures his influential presence, reminding us of his significant role in shaping religious life during this time. Drum Castle stands as a testament to the grandeur of the XII century. In a black and white photo, its ancient walls exude an aura of strength and history that has withstood the test of time. The military campaigns led by Byzantine Emperor Leon VI "The Wise" against the Bulgarians come alive through a miniature from "Synopsis historiarum. " This illuminated manuscript from the 12th century offers glimpses into these epic battles that shaped empires. Richard the Lionheart, known for his bravery and chivalry, is depicted in a vibrant lithograph. His iconic image represents an era defined by knights and their noble pursuits. Traquair House's Bear Gates are flanked by gate lodges captured in monochrome photography. These structures stand as guardians to one hundred favourite houses, showcasing their enduring beauty even after centuries have passed. The house's elegance is showcased amidst nature's splendorous backdrop. Berkeley Castle once again captivates our imagination when viewed from the west. This country house nestled among Cotswold hills tells tales untold but preserved within its stone walls throughout generations. A footed bowl crafted during late 1100s-early 1200s showcases exquisite artistry with fritware material adorned with pierced patterns and underglaze painting techniques—a testament to skilled craftsmanship prevalent during this era.
