The Presentation of the Captain General's Baton to Antonio Moncada by the Queen Regent....1410, 1664 Creators: David Teniers II, Jan van Kessel
The Presentation of the Captain General's Baton to Antonio Moncada by the Queen Regent Blanca of Sicily in 1410, 1664.
As in the previous scene, the events take place in an interior, but here the solemn event is witnessed by a large group of prelates and other dignitaries gathered before the queen's throne. In this case Van Kessel decorated his border with putti and numerous objects and instruments relating to war, including coats-of-arms, lances, swords, arrows and standards, as well as various military musical instruments such as drums and trumpets. Van Kessel framed the scenes at the sides with pilasters and two busts symbolising Justice and Liberalitas Regis

**The Regal Presentation: A Timeless Moment of Honor**
In this exquisite print from the early Baroque era (1664), we are transported to a momentous occasion in history. The presentation of the Captain General's Baton to Antonio Moncada by Queen Blanca of Sicily takes center stage, witnessed by a distinguished gathering of prelates and dignitaries before her throne.
David Teniers II and Jan van Kessel have masterfully captured this solemn ceremony within an interior setting, where every detail is imbued with significance. The border, adorned with putti (cherubs) and objects related to war - coats-of-arms, lances, swords, arrows, standards, drums, and trumpets - serves as a testament to the grandeur of the occasion.
The regal atmosphere is further enhanced by pilasters framing the scenes at either side and two busts symbolizing Justice and Liberalitas Regis (Royal Generosity). The overall effect is one of majesty and honor, paying tribute to Antonio Moncada's esteemed position as Captain General. This rare print from Heritage Images offers a unique glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Europe during this period, showcasing the artistic mastery of Teniers II and Van Kessel in their depiction of grandeur and ceremony.
