The Submission of the Sicilian Rebels to Antonio Moncada in 1411, 1663.
Antonio de Moncada, having defeated the rebels, represented by two kneeling men in the foreground, receives the keys of the city held by a young boy on a tray. Wearing ceremonial armour and holding the baton of captain-general in his hand, Antonio de Moncada accepts the gift, standing under an ornate blue canopy. Teniers completes the scene with other figures wearing decorative armour. The border by Van Kessel has six small putti playing or holding objects such as a glass of wine, flowers, crowns or swinging from large ribbons. The musical instruments, pieces of armour, flowers and two concerts of exotic birds at the top provide a brilliant framework for the historical episode

**The Submission of Sicilian Rebels to Antonio Moncada (1411)**
In this stunning Baroque-era print, Flemish masters David Teniers II and Jan van Kessel come together to depict a pivotal moment in history. The scene shows Antonio de Moncada, victorious commander-in-chief, receiving the keys of the city from two kneeling Sicilian rebels on behalf of their leader. As Moncada stands beneath an ornate blue canopy, his ceremonial armor shines alongside decorative armors worn by other figures in the background.
The border surrounding this historical episode is a masterpiece in itself - six playful putti (cherubs) frolic amidst musical instruments, flowers, and exotic birds perched on ribbons. This enchanting framework adds depth to the narrative of surrender and defeat. The print's intricate details evoke not only the grandeur of Baroque art but also the cultural heritage of Flanders.
