EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the intricate process of moulding the floor slab at Minories Car Park in City of London. The polypropylene moulds, known as Kaiser Moulds, are meticulously arranged to create the coffered structure of the first-floor slab. A staggering 2,200 of these moulds were hired for this ambitious project, with all but one being returned intact. The dedication and teamwork displayed by the site team is truly commendable. Pouring an impressive 300 cubic yards of concrete per week during this stage of construction showcases their efficiency and expertise. This image not only highlights the technical aspects involved in building a multi-storey car park but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration and coordination among workers. Dating back to the 1960s, this photograph provides a glimpse into a bygone era where manual labor played a significant role in shaping our urban landscapes. The presence of people engaged in their work adds depth and authenticity to this snapshot from history. Preserved within Historic England Archive's collection, this image serves as a reminder that every architectural marvel we encounter today is built upon countless hours of hard work and meticulous craftsmanship. It invites us to appreciate both the beauty found within these structures and those who dedicated themselves to creating them.
