Living Room JLP01_08_078252

Victoria Park Estate, Macclesfield, Cheshire East. The living room of a flat at the Victoria Park development, built using the 12M Jespersen system.
In 1963, John Laing and Son Ltd bought the rights to the Danish industrialised building system for flats known as Jespersen (sometimes referred to as Jesperson). The company built factories in Scotland, Hampshire and Lancashire producing Jespersen prefabricated parts and precast concrete panels, allowing the building of housing to be rationalised, saving time and money. The Victoria Park development in Macclesfield, lying between the park and the centre of town, was built by Laing in two phases using the 12M Jespersen system. Providing around 500 flats, the design consisted of thirteen interlinked blocks forming a series of courts with landscaped gardens. The first phase was completed in 1968 with the second phase started in the same year

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the living room of a flat in the Victoria Park Estate, located in Macclesfield, Cheshire East. Constructed using the innovative 12M Jespersen system, this development was a testament to John Laing and Son Ltd's forward-thinking approach in 1963. By acquiring the rights to this Danish industrialized building system for flats, Laing revolutionized housing construction by establishing factories across Scotland, Hampshire, and Lancashire. The Victoria Park development consisted of thirteen interconnected blocks that formed a series of charming courts adorned with beautifully landscaped gardens. This particular image captures the essence of domestic bliss during the swinging sixties. The meticulously designed living room exudes an air of sophistication and comfort. With its sleek furnishings and tasteful furniture choices, this space epitomizes mid-century modern style at its finest. The attention to detail is evident in every corner – from the carefully selected color palette to the thoughtfully arranged decor elements. As one gazes upon this photograph print from Historic England Archive, they are transported back in time to an era where architectural innovation met stylish interior design. It serves as a reminder that even decades later, these Jespersen-built flats continue to stand as timeless examples of efficient housing solutions that saved both time and money while providing comfortable homes for hundreds of residents within their walls.
