1950s Coach Holiday Laing Spirit River Road Bridge Road Transport Summer Travel Charabanc Road Trip

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a nostalgic moment in time during a coach trip to Betws y Coed, Wales. The iconic Waterloo Bridge serves as the backdrop for two coaches filled with enthusiastic Laing staff members and their families. In 1947, after a seven-year hiatus, Laing revived their Area Outings program, providing an opportunity for employees and loved ones to embark on memorable adventures together. This particular excursion took place in 1954, amidst the beautiful months of May and June. A total of seven outings were planned over five weeks during this period. The image exudes the essence of the Laing spirit - camaraderie, joy, and a sense of adventure. As the coaches traverse across the bridge, laughter fills the air while everyone eagerly anticipates reaching Llandudno. This photograph is not just about road transport or a simple holiday snapshot; it represents an era when company outings held great significance for both employees and their families. It symbolizes cherished memories made during summer vacations in the 1950s. Preserved by Historic England Archive, this remarkable piece invites us to step back in time and appreciate how travel experiences have evolved throughout history. It reminds us that beyond its historical value lies a story of people coming together to create lasting connections through shared adventures on open roads.
