Second Severn Crossing JLP01_11_62047_11

Second Severn Crossing, M4 Motorway, New Passage, Pilning and Severn Beach, South Gloucestershire. A view of the Second Severn Crossing, looking along the deck of the bridge at dusk.
The Second Severn Crossing took four years to build and was a joint civil engineering project between Laing Civil Engineering and the French company GTM. The work started in April 1992 and the opening ceremony later took place on 5th June 1996. The crossing is a cable-stayed bridge which stretches over 5000 metres across the River Severn connecting England and Wales, 3 miles downstream from the Severn Bridge which opened in 1966

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic Second Severn Crossing in all its glory. As dusk settles over the M4 Motorway, a mesmerizing view of the bridge's deck unfolds before our eyes. The Second Severn Crossing stands as a testament to human ingenuity and collaboration, having been constructed through a joint effort between Laing Civil Engineering and GTM, a French company. The construction of this remarkable cable-stayed bridge spanned four years, commencing in April 1992 and culminating in an awe-inspiring opening ceremony on June 5th, 1996. Stretching over an impressive length of 5000 meters across the River Severn, this engineering marvel connects England and Wales at New Passage near Pilning and Severn Beach in South Gloucestershire. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are transported back to the bustling atmosphere of the 1990s. The glow from car headlights illuminates the motorway below, adding a touch of vibrancy to an already breathtaking scene. The Second Severn Crossing holds great historical significance as it follows in the footsteps of its predecessor -the iconic Severn Bridge- which opened its gates to traffic in 1966 just three miles upstream. This image serves as both a visual delight and a reminder of mankind's ability to conquer nature's obstacles while forging connections that transcend borders.
