Hereford Library, Museum And Art Gallery, Broad Street, Hereford. View of the front elevation of the library, a three storey building with attic and basement, built c1874 by F. R. Kempson, seen from the east, with Broad Street, cars and pedestrians in the foreground.
The library was built c1874, and has three storeys with attic and basement, and a seven-window range. The windows on the first and second floor create an interrupted arcade pattern of two-three-two, and the ground floor arcade of five bays is continuous, with a wrought-iron gate in the central entrance bay. The ground and first floor have pointed arches, and the second floor trefoil-heads. Above the second floor is a parapet pierced with quatrefoil designs and small gargoyles carwling along the top. Throughour the facade are enriched friezes and capitals. The image also shows a partial view of the buildings either side, including a shop with the sign Andreas Ltd, and Broad street in the foreground, which has parked cars and pedestrians

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Hereford Library, Museum and Art Gallery in all its architectural glory. Built in 1874 by F. R. Kempson, this three-storey building with an attic and basement stands as a testament to the rich history of Hereford. The front elevation is beautifully showcased from an eastern perspective, offering a picturesque view of Broad Street bustling with cars and pedestrians. The library itself boasts a seven-window range, with its first and second floors adorned in an interrupted arcade pattern of two-three-two windows. The ground floor features a continuous arcade of five bays, complete with a striking wrought-iron gate at the central entrance bay. Pointed arches grace both the ground and first floors, while trefoil-heads adorn the second floor. Above it all sits a parapet intricately pierced with quatrefoil designs, accompanied by small gargoyles playfully crawling along its top edge. Enriched friezes and capitals can be admired throughout the facade, adding further elegance to this architectural masterpiece. In addition to showcasing Hereford Library's magnificence, this image also offers glimpses of neighboring buildings such as Andreas Ltd shop sign on one side. Meanwhile, Broad Street takes center stage in the foreground - vibrant with parked cars and pedestrians going about their daily lives. Ursula Clark's skillful photography has immortalized this iconic piece of history for future generations to appreciate and admire.
