The photograph is based on a portrait by Lucas Cranach from 1520 and was taken inside the Tower Church at Weimar. Martin Luther, born in 1483, played a crucial role in shaping the Reformation. His bold actions led to his excommunication by Pope Leo IX in 1521 and being declared an outlaw at the Diet of Worms.
