EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of golf's rich history, featuring two legendary figures - Old Tom Morris and his son Young Tom Morris. Taken around 1870, this image showcases the bond between father and son as they stand side by side, both donning their golf attire with pride. Old Tom Morris was a true pioneer in competitive golf during its early years. With four Open Championship victories to his name, he left an indelible mark on the sport. Even at the age of 64, he displayed remarkable skill by completing a round at St Andrews in just 81 strokes. Young Tom Morris followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a professional golfer himself. Tragically, his life was cut short at the young age of 24. However, during his brief career, he achieved great success and is remembered as one of Scotland's finest players. The collotype reproduction adds a touch of nostalgia to this photograph while maintaining its timeless appeal. The monochrome aesthetic emphasizes the historical significance of these two influential figures within Scottish golfing culture. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded not only of their individual achievements but also of the enduring legacy they created together as father and son – forever etched into the annals of golfing history.
