Jigsaw Puzzle of RMS Olympic BL24990_002
RMS OLYMPIC, White Star Line. First class companion, A deck. Interior view of the stairway to first class entrance on boat deck. The Olympic was the first of a class of luxurious express transatlantic ocean liners, and entered service with the White Star Line in 1911 as the largest cruise liner in the world. Sister ship of the RMS Titanic, she was the only one of the class to prove a success, serving until 1935. The clock from Olympics grand staircase, probably made most famous through the RMS Titanic, is now on display at the Southampton Maritime Museum. Photographed by Bedford Lemere at Southampton, October 1921

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur and elegance of the RMS Olympic, a true marvel of its time. The image showcases the first-class companion on A deck, offering a glimpse into the opulent interior of this legendary ocean liner. As one ascends the stairway to the first-class entrance on the boat deck, an aura of luxury surrounds every step. Built in 1911 as part of White Star Line's fleet, RMS Olympic was renowned for its luxurious amenities and impeccable service. It proudly held the title of being the largest cruise liner in existence at that time. Unlike its ill-fated sister ship, RMS Titanic, which tragically sank in 1912, RMS Olympic enjoyed a successful career until 1935. One notable feature captured in this photograph is none other than the iconic clock from Olympics' grand staircase. This clock gained worldwide recognition through its association with Titanic's similar timepiece. Today, it finds itself displayed at Southampton Maritime Museum as a testament to these magnificent vessels' legacy. The photographer behind this remarkable shot is Bedford Lemere who expertly documented maritime history during his visit to Southampton in October 1921. Through his lens, we are transported back in time to witness firsthand both the splendor and significance of these majestic ships that once ruled transatlantic travel.
