This poignant photograph, taken by James Nelson on the 29th of July, 1942, captures the devastating impact of the Second World War on the community of Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The image, titled OP09006 by Historic England Archive, portrays the aftermath of a bombing raid on Highgate Road.
