Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Stanton began his legal practice in 1838. He quickly established a reputation as a formidable litigator, often taking on high-profile cases that tested the boundaries of the law. Stanton's unwavering commitment to justice and his willingness to challenge the status quo earned him both admirers and enemies. In 1861, as the Civil War loomed, Stanton joined the Republican Party and was appointed as the Secretary of War by President Abraham Lincoln. Stanton's tenure was marked by his unyielding dedication to the Union cause and his commitment to ending slavery. He oversaw the recruitment and training of over 2 million soldiers, orchestrated the logistical support for the Union army, and implemented policies that dismantled the Confederacy's war machine.
