The species is also known by its scientific names, including Spirontocaris spinosa, Palinurus variabilis, Penaeus processus, and Athanas nitescens. This beautiful engraving is a testament to the skill and artistry of the 19th-century scientific illustrators and their dedication to documenting the natural world.
