The Grand National - Luck - Good and Bad - Round the Course

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph print transports us back to the thrilling 1933 Grand National at Aintree Racecourse. The image encapsulates the unpredictable nature of horseracing, with both triumph and adversity on full display. At the finish line, Kellsboro Jack, ridden by D Williams for Mrs Ambrose Clark, triumphantly jumps the last fence to claim victory. However, the path to the finish was not an easy one. Just a few strides before, Pelorus Jack, under the guidance of jockey W Stott, held the lead with the winner. Tragically, Pelorus Jack fell at the final hurdle, leaving Kellsboro Jack to claim the coveted title. Meanwhile, the course was not for the faint-hearted. Lt Col Tweedie's horse, Ballybrack, with jockey G Elliott aboard, came crashing down at the last fence. The eighteen horses that managed to complete the grueling race took on Becher's Brook for the second time, with half a dozen of them successfully clearing the infamous obstacle. This photograph offers a glimpse into the raw emotion and excitement of the Grand National during the 1930s. The unpredictability of horseracing is on full display, with both good and bad fortune unfolding before our eyes. The image serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of this iconic sporting event.
