EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the evolving uniforms of the esteemed Worcestershire Regiment, a distinguished part of the British Army, spanning the years from 1694 to 1915. In the earliest image, dating back to 1694, we see a soldier donning a dark blue coat, with red lapels and cuffs, and a white waistcoat and breeches. This was the typical uniform of the English infantry during the late 1690s. The Worcestershire Regiment, also known by its regimental nicknames "The Old Hundred" and "The First Regiment of Foot," proudly wore this uniform as they defended the realm during the late 17th century. The second uniform, from the 1740s, features a red coat with black lapels and cuffs, and a white waistcoat and breeches. This uniform was worn during the War of the Austrian Succession and the early stages of the Seven Years' War. The Worcestershire Regiment's reputation for bravery and discipline continued to grow during this period. The third uniform, from 1808, represents the regiment during the Napoleonic Wars. This uniform is characterized by its dark blue coat, with red collar, cuffs, and lapels, and white waistcoat and breeches. The men were also equipped with rifled muskets and bayonets, reflecting the changing nature of warfare during this time. The final image, from the 1910s, depicts a soldier in the distinctive khaki uniform of the British Army during World War I. By this time, the Worcestershire Regiment had been redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, and had seen action in various campaigns and battles. The uniform may have changed, but the regiment's proud traditions and unwavering dedication to duty remained constant.
