This photograph showcases the de Havilland DH.114 Heron CC.4 XM295 (msn 14129) during the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force (RAF) celebrations held at RAF Abingdon in 1968. Delivered to the RAF on 17th April 1958, this Heron aircraft served the military for a number of years before being decommissioned. Following its de-mob, it was allocated the B-class registration G41-2-68 and was even briefly given the civil registration OY-DHE. However, it was not taken up under this registration. Instead, XM295 was sold to Canada and given the registration C-FOXK. Unfortunately, its Canadian tenure was short-lived, and the aircraft was eventually scrapped in 1986. This image captures the Heron's distinctive design and the pride and history it represents as a former RAF aircraft. With its wings spread wide and the RAF roundel prominently displayed, XM295 stands as a testament to the rich aviation heritage of the Royal Air Force.
