Florence Nightingale burial place. Picture shows the Nightingale family burial

Florence Nightingale burial place.
Picture shows the Nightingale family burial site is at the Church of St. Margaret in East Wellow very near the family estate of Embley Park, near Romsey, Hampshire.
The church was founded in 1215, the year of the signing of the Magna Carta. It is a small building, holding around 100 people, but rich in architectural interest. Resting in one of the windows was the Scutari Cross, made of bullets from the Crimea, and beside it a framed text which was hanging in Florence Nightingales bedroom when she died. (The cross was stolen in 1991 and is replaced by a fiberglass replica.)
There is a four sided monument in the churchyard with inscriptions on each side for the four family members
Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820 - 13 August 1910) was an English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing.
Picture issued 18th August 1910

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the burial place of Florence Nightingale, a remarkable figure in history. The picture showcases the Nightingale family burial site at the Church of St. Margaret in East Wellow, located near their ancestral estate of Embley Park in Hampshire. The church itself holds great historical significance as it was founded in 1215, coinciding with the signing of the Magna Carta. Despite its modest size, accommodating only around 100 individuals, it is architecturally fascinating. Within one of its windows rests the Scutari Cross, crafted from bullets used during the Crimean War. Adjacent to it hangs a framed text that once adorned Florence Nightingale's bedroom when she passed away (although sadly stolen in 1991 and replaced by a fiberglass replica). In the churchyard stands an imposing four-sided monument bearing inscriptions dedicated to each member of the Nightingale family. Among them lies Florence Nightingale herself (1820-1910), an English social reformer and statistician who revolutionized modern nursing. This evocative image was issued on August 18th, 1910 – shortly after her passing – offering us a glimpse into both her final resting place and her enduring legacy as a pioneer in healthcare and social change.
