Flight to the Moon. Artwork depicting a scene from the science fiction novel From the Earth to the Moon (French: De la Terre a la Lune, 1865) by the French author Jules Verne (1828-1905). This novel told the story of three people who travel to the Moon (upper right) in a projectile vehicle (shown here). It is one of the earliest examples of science fiction stories dealing with travel to the Moon. Jules Vernes novels include: Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1869-1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873)
