The Wold Cottage Meteorite, also known as the Wold Meteorite or the Wold Cottage Meteorite, is a stony meteorite classified as an ordinary chondrite L6. It was discovered in 1795 near the village of Wold, in North Yorkshire, England. The meteorite, which weighed around 22.5 kilograms (50 pounds) at the time of discovery, is now housed in the British Museum in London. The meteorite's surface displays a striking fusion crust, formed during its passage through the Earth's atmosphere. This fusion crust is rich in iron and feldspar minerals, giving the meteorite an intriguing, dark appearance. The interior of the meteorite consists of chondrules, small, spherical mineral grains that formed in space before the meteorite's parent body cooled. The discovery of the Wold Cottage Meteorite sparked great interest in the scientific community, contributing to the advancement of mineralogy and meteoritics.
