Born into the British royal family, Augusta was also a member of the House of Brunswick through her mother, Princess Anne of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. In 1764, she married Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, becoming Duchess of Brunswick.
