EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the majestic beauty of St. Michaels Golden-Domed Monastery in Kiev, Ukraine. The monastery, which dates back to the Middle Ages, is a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of this capital city. The image showcases the intricate architecture of the monastery's Cathedral, with its golden domes shining brightly against a backdrop of clear blue skies. The Refectory of St. John the Divine and the monastery's bell tower are also visible, adding to the grandeur of this religious site. Despite facing destruction during Stalin's regime in the 1930s, this sacred place was lovingly reconstructed and reopened in 1999 after Ukraine gained independence. Today, it stands as a symbol of resilience and faith for both locals and visitors alike. In this photograph, there are no people present; instead, we see an atmosphere filled with tranquility and spirituality. A cross atop one of the domes reminds us that this is a place dedicated to worship and prayer. Frans Sellies' expert photography captures every detail with precision - from the ornate decorations on each dome to the delicate archangel Michael statue guarding over them all. This print serves as a reminder that travel destinations can be more than just tourist spots; they can hold deep historical significance and spiritual meaning for those who seek it.
