Horse Bazaar, at Constantinople, 1854. Creator: Unknown
Horse Bazaar, at Constantinople, 1854. Scene during the Crimean War. One of the busy scenes in the Turkish capital during the encampment of the British troops in the suburbs, was the Horse Bazaar, sketched by our Artist. It is, certainly, a much more picturesque affair than our large building in Baker-street [in London]. The scene represented is a small square, with groups of Turks, smoking; in the foreground are British officers bargaining for and trying horses, mules, &c. About the square are houses which serve for stables...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854
