EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning panel from England, dating back to approximately 1870. Created by the talented trio Warner, Sillet and Ramm, this ornate piece features an exquisite pattern adorned with Arabic-style script. It is believed that this remarkable design may have been conceptualized by the renowned artist Owen Jones. The vibrant colors and intricate details of this textile reflect the rich heritage of British art in the 19th century. Its exotic allure transports us to distant lands, evoking a sense of fascination with orientalism. The satin weave used in its construction, along with secondary binding warps and supplementary patterning wefts, exemplify the exceptional craftsmanship employed by Warner, Sillet and Ramm. Displayed at the Art Institute Chicago's gallery space, this artwork serves as a testament to their commitment to preserving historical treasures. Its presence invites visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of textiles from centuries past. As we admire this masterpiece captured through photography, it is important to acknowledge its significance beyond commercial use. This panel represents not only a work of art but also a symbol of cultural exchange between Britain and Arabia during that era. With every thread woven into its fabric, this panel tells a story that transcends time - one that celebrates creativity, diversity, and artistic excellence.
