EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna, the wife of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, during the early 20th century. The artist behind this remarkable portrait is A Pasetti. Born Princess Alix of Hesse in 1872, she was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria before marrying Tsar Nicholas II in November 1894. As a member of the Russian royal family, Alexandra became known for her elegance and grace. Her exquisite dress and fashion sense are beautifully captured in this image. Tragically, Alexandra's life came to a devastating end along with her husband and children at the hands of Bolsheviks in Yekaterinburg in 1918. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of their untimely demise. Preserved within the State Museum of History in Moscow, this piece offers us a glimpse into an era marked by monarchy and royalty. It reflects both Alexandra's German heritage and her prominent role as Empress consort to Nicholas II. The monochrome composition adds depth to the image while emphasizing its historical significance. Through this portrait, we witness not only the beauty but also the strength that characterized Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna throughout her tumultuous reign alongside her beloved husband.
