This stunning page is taken from the Complutensian Polyglot Bible, the first printed edition of the entire Bible in multiple languages. Financed and initiated by Spanish Cardinal Francisco Jimenez de Cisneros between 1514 and 1517 in Alcala de Henares, Kingdom of Castile, Spain, this masterpiece of medieval scholarship and art is considered an important milestone in the history of the Catholic Church and European literature.
